Late Summer Blooms with Clever Late Season Color Echo

Though attractive from late spring onward, this planting combination really comes into its own mid-to-late summer when the grass begins its long flowering season.  It's complemented by the aster's darkly-colored juvenile foliage which is covered in fall by a constellation of tiny, pinkish-white flowers which echo the pink tones of the neighboring barberry.  This low-maintenance, drought-tolerant vignette is attractive to birds, bees and butterflies and bees from spring to fall with its progression of blooms and the berries produced by the Japanese barberry.
