Fab Foliage, Fun Flowers, and Fall Color

This plant combination is anchored by attractive foliage in varied textures, but there's plenty of blooms to enjoy over a long season. Geranium Rozanne mingles and tangles with an easy-care shrub rose to provide blooms for late spring, repeating in periodic waves into the fall. The irregular, upward sweeping shape of the Wissel's Saguro Lawson cypress paired with large leaves of the oakleaf hydrangea, and the compact, rounded form of the box honeysuckle create an architecturally interesting composition. Carpeting the ground is a tapestry of blue fescue with a hen and chicks variety selected for large rosettes and reliably burgundy foliage color. In fall, Hydrangea quercifolia 'Snow Queen's foliage develops an outstanding deep red color as it goes dormant. Extend the winter hardiness of this plant combination by replacing Lonicera n. 'Twiggy' with a different finely-textured evergreen shrub with yellow/gold foliage.
