Flowers and Grasses for Fall Color

This easy-to-grow perennial planting combination for full sun has a definite autumnal vibe going on. While not nonexistent in the early seasons, thanks to the evergreen foliage and early blooms of Helleborus argutifolius 'Silver Lace', this planting combination really comes into its own in late summer, and continues its display of showy blooms and fine foliage well into fall. The curiously quilled golden blooms of Rudbeckia 'Little Henry' have a dark eye which echo the burgundy foliage of the dwarf fountain grass. Together with the purple daisy-like blooms of the New England aster, these flowering plants provide late season color and are an important late-season nectar source for pollinators. Burgundy Bunny is a delightful dwarf fountain grass; it's covered in tufts of tawny plumes and its grassy foliage takes on burgundy tones from mid-summer onward.
