Summer Blooms Framed by Phormium

This plant combination is easy and uncomplicated to reproduce. Exceptionally long-blooming perennials paired with the strong, strappy foliage of the New Zealand flax provide months of enjoyment. If you’re unable to find the exact varieties listed below in your local garden center, this idea is easily modified by choosing another coneflower, agastache, and phormium trio that strikes a balance with a contrasting color scheme with a common thread of color. For example, in this instance Phormium ‘Tricolor’ has a thin edge of reddish pink along its margins. That speaks to the deep pink flowers of Agastache ‘Red Fortune’, which ties-in with the dark eyes of Echinacea ‘Big Kahuna’. The melon-orange coneflower contrasts nicely with the deep pink and shares sunny tones with the phormium. A pleasing variety in foliage shape and textures round out the appeal.
