Woodland Garden with Excellent Foliage and Flowers

This planting combination for a woodland setting evokes coziness and warmth with its toasty-yellow and luscious-cream coloring. Featuring pretty flowers from spring to fall and attractive foliage that is both static (evergreen) and evolving (deciduous) as well as large (fatsia) and small (hosta)— the overall effect is so very satisfying. The largest plants that compose the bulk of the arrangement are the Chinese dogwood tree, the limelight panicle hydrangea. Both of which are deciduous and have a long and ever-evolving presence in the garden throughout the year. Several medium-sized evergreen plants that frame the composition include the variegated fatsia, the rhododendron, and the plum yew. The diminutive hosta and flowing fronds of the autumn fern cover the ground with texturally-interesting foliage. Together, these plants create a garden that looks good for months on end and evolves in pleasing ways as each of the plants ebb and flow, taking their place in and out of the spotlight.
