Woodland Vignette with Light Colored Foliage

Soothing in its simplicity, this low maintenance foliage combo composed of handsome, slow-growing plants creates a sophisticated vignette suitable for a front entry bed or courtyard garden. In early spring, the emerging foliage of the compact deciduous tree steals the show—its golden yellow leaves, blushed with burgundy at the margins, is wonderful for lighting up a shady spot, but will tolerate sun with adequate moisture. This Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon' is the changing element within the otherwise static frame of evergreen foliage. The shrub layer, composed of Mahonia 'Soft Caress' and variegated boxwood, occupy the mid-plane and are flanked by a carpet of glossy, heart-shaped foliage and straps of yellow grass. Allow the variegated boxwood to grow loose and relaxed, or clip it for a more formal feel.
