GOLDEN LANTERNS® has the unique attributes of the typical species – distinctive flowers in mid-summer and mature fruits of deep maroon in autumn – but with shimmering chartreuse foliage to boot. The deciduous stems shoot up quickly in spring and the first leaves emerge reddish purple, then morph to luminous yellow green.

Culture Notes
Plant in full sun to light or open shade. It is very adaptable to soil conditions, growing well in moist to well-drained sites and tolerating sandy or clay situations. Once established it only needs occasional watering during dry periods. It is easy to prune. Weak and twiggy old growth can be removed in winter. If the shrub becomes too large, it can be cut to 12 to 18 inches tall in late winter and allowed to regrow the next season. Two to three years of recovery should be allowed after it has been cut to the ground.
