Loropetalum chinense 'Pipa's Red'

Chinese Fringe Flower

Semi-evergreen Shrub

Vivid magenta flowers set against dark purple foliage scream, "hello spring!" on this mounding semi-evergreen shrub. In the Pacific Northwest, I've observed that the size and performance can be variable—slow to start or grows like gang-busters; sometimes tall and reaching, other times more spreading. That aside, it's a shrub well worth growing, looking good in the garden for a solid three seasons. Use in mixed beds and it makes a good medium-sized hedging plant.
