False indigo is a great perennial sub-shrub for difficult conditions in dry, unimproved soil. Decorated with pea-shaped blooms in spring; the most common bloom color is blue, but some newer varieties, such as Baptisia x variicolor 'Twilite Prairieblues', are delivering some more subtle bloom colors.
