Orange-red foliage of the barberry and fragrant red flowers atop semi-glossy green foliage from the sweetshrub set the tone for the color scheme and are a welcome color treat from late spring to fall. Easy-care and evergreen, Abelia 'Rose Creek' maintains a compact size and/or can be pruned to keep within bounds if it gets overly ambitious. Clumps of finely-textured bronze foliage make a weed-suppressing ground cover, from which gorgeous stems of the crape myrtle emerge and are topped by panicles of white bloom in mid to late summer.
